Director Babyruth Villarama-Gutierrez

“Growing up in Baliwag, I have once dreamt of making a film and becoming a film director, and then my dreams happened. So I will dream again, that Baliwag shall soon be known as one of the centers for cultivating globally-competitive film directors.”

Direk Babyruth made a huge break in the industry as her film entitled Sunday Beauty Queens not just made it to the official list of movies for the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival, but moreso bagged the most prestigious Best Picture award. The film also had international screenings and expectedly won the appeal of most foreigners.

Another young Baliwagenyo film maker was awarded the 2017 Natatanging Kabataan ng Baliwag in the Arts and Culture category because of his exemplary short film that not only represented Region 3 during the National Adolescent Health and Development Film Festival of the Commission on Population but also made it to the International Children’s Film Making Festival held in Bangladesh.

He was Jean David Solis, a 17 year old student from St. Mary’s College of Baliuag who directed this internationally-recognized short film entitled “Malaya,” along with his other colleagues in school.

Indeed, Baliwag prides itself with highly competitive talents, and with both public and private schools integrating modules on film making in their respective curriculums, it is expected that more potentials will emerge in the coming years.
