Mayor Ferdie, officials, netizens and motorists called on DPWH to repair wavy, uneven, eroded asphalt overlay along DRT Highway.

Overloaded trucks are being blamed for the quick erosion of the asphalt overlay along DRT Highway.  The stretch of the Dońa Remedios Trinidad Highway is described to be like seawaves because of the dents formed, caused by the weight of heavy truck wheels. The uneven overlay was also seen as the major cause of frequent road accidents in that area.

The road’s condition compelled the Local Government to complain and propound to the Secretary of the DPWH its utter concern for the safety of motorists. After more than one month, the Office of the Secretary responded only to say that the project was under a long-term road rehabilitation project and that the project was monitored by a project management office.

If conditions were caused by overloaded trucks and not by the quality of asphalt overlay, how come NLEX, SLEX and other toll highways can maintain the worthiness of its roads? Why can we not maintain the quality of roads in such manner?  Are we not alarmed by the accidents that are occurring daily along DRT Highway?

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office attended to about 2-3 vehicular accidents daily. The risks and dangers are openly REAL.

Later this week, Baliwag DRRMO will be installing warning signages along DRT highway to remind motorists of the real dangers the road pose to motorists because of the uneven surface. We can only remind motorists and the concerned offices to expeditiously ensure repair or reconstruct for the peoples’ general welfare and safety.
